About the book

So many of our youth are not being told about the meaning and purpose of their lives.  They are not being told what the purpose of a young warrior should be.  This concise book (60 pages) offers 12 Teachings to help our youth find meaning and purpose in life.  Each of the 12 Teachings carries a brief commentary to orient a reader to what the particular teaching is about.  Each of the 12 Teachings can bring about an "ah-ha!" moment in the reader.  Each reflection offers positive messages to orient a person in a new way that could bring meaning and purpose to everyday life.

"You have a purpose!!! Your birth is not an accident."  exlaims one of the messages.  Many of the teachings encourage a young person to stay in school as a way forward.  Each of the 12 Teachings is like an arrow striking to the heart of an issue or subject that is especially important to Native youth, and to others who are seeking meaning and purpose in their lives.

In addition to the 12 Teachings, the book has a section entitled, "The Indian Meaning to Life: The Secrets of the Young Warrior."  This section further expands on the 12 Teachings with short presentations on Culture, The Warrior's Song, and The Four Directions Secrets."  The Purpose Medicine Wheel, visible on the cover, is yet another teaching in the book to give the reader more "tools" to enrich his or her life.  Also called "The 4 P's," the four directions of this Medicine Wheel are: Prayer, Purpose, Perseverance and Passion.

This book is not just for Native youth but can benefit people of any age group or  ethnic backgroud.  It can help them to find their way in life.  It can be given to a son, daughter, relative, or to a young friend to help them stay on track in the confusing climate of today's world.  The facilitators of youth groups can also use it as a core curriculum from which they expand and explain its pages to suit their particular group.  Used in this way, the material in the book can be tailored to a particular Native culture or tribe, as well as interpreted to suit Non-Native youth groups that might benefit from the book.
